Women in Coastal Engineering Networking Function

Please join us for an informative panel discussion and networking event Tuesday evening. Grab a drink and a bite to eat and then explore topics of gender diversity, inclusivity, career path options, mentoring, and work life balance with our panel members and fellow conference delegates.  Following the panel discussion, light canapes and drinks will be served and provide opportunity for you to mingle and network.

The event follows the principles of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and is open to ALL conference delegates. Both men and women are encouraged to attend.

Panellist members

Dr. Sarah Hamylton (She / her) 

Sarah Hamylton is Associate Professor of Coastal Geography and Director, Spatial Analysis Laboratories at the University of Wollongong, Australia.

Sarah’s research focuses on mapping, monitoring and modelling in coastal environments, particularly coral reefs. Sarah has worked on many reefs, both globally and around the Australian coastline.

Sarah is President of the Australian Coral Reef Society (formerly the Great Barrier Reef Committee),and has been on the Council since 2015. Sarah is a keen diver, boater and a mapping enthusiast.

Davena Bond 

Davena Bond has been a Coastal Engineer for 20 years and is currently a Project Manager at Northern Beaches Council (Sydney).

She has had a diverse career across construction, consulting and government, within Australia and internationally. Her career has taken her to the construction of megaprojects in the Middle East, restoration of a 16th century quay wall in the UK, the bottom of Sydney Harbour dive surveying ferry wharfs, and many other interesting places in between. Davena currently enjoys working part-time managing projects on her local beaches, balancing her career and two small children.

Dr. Cristina Izaguirre 

Cristina Izaguirre is a civil engineer with MSc and PhD in Coastal and Port Engineering from University of Cantabria (Spain).

Her research interests lie in coastal impact modelling, risk analysis and adaptation to climate change. In particular, Cristina focuses on developing methodologies for understanding climate change risks in coastal systems and using this information as a basis for designing strategies of coastal adaptation. She is currently working in Fiji as coastal analyst in The Pacific Community (SPC), the principal scientific and technical organisation supporting development in the Pacific region. There, she is working towards increasing climate change risk knowledge on the maritime boundaries of the Blue Pacific.

Sarah Budd

Sarah Budd is the Water & Maritime Asia Pacific Director and Australia Managing Director for Royal Haskoning DHV, a global engineering and environmental consultancy with its headquarters in the Netherlands.

Having started her career off originally in the UK 28 years ago within the flood and coastal resilience space, Sarah’s career has followed her passion of building strong and diverse teams and developing new growth strategies across the globe. As a business leader and company director Sarah has provided strategic, operational and technical leadership within the Water Technology, Climate Resilience, Maritime and Environment sectors in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and now Asia-Pacific. Sarah loves the outdoors and likes nothing better than a long hike in a National Park or along the NSW coastline.
